Leagues

Leagues

We typically offer leagues in the following periods: Fall (October-December), Winter (January-March), Spring (March-April), and Summer (June-July). Leagues cost $20 per game plus sales tax.Participation in leagues requires an active annual membership.

If you don’t have a team to play on, don’t be concerned! The league commisioners will connect you with a team. Our leagues are a great way to meet people and develop your curling skills! All leagues accept spares.

Registration Dates

  • September Warm-Up Leagues: Tuesdays 7pm (4 weeks) and Sundays 2:15pm (4 weeks): Saturday, July 19 at 10am
  • Fall 2025 leagues starting in October
    • Priority registration for Winter 2024 league participants: Saturday, August 2 through Wednesday, August 13
    • Open registration: Saturday, August 16 at 10am
    • Due to high demand and limited league space, our general open registration period will begin with a lottery. Nearly all of our leagues are coming out of priority registration with just 2-6 spots available, and the Aksarben Curling Board of Directors has opted to use a lottery process to prevent the leagues from overfilling.

One league will have a normal registration process on Saturday, August 16th at 10am:

      • Sunday 12:00pm - Registration will open on our website

The following leagues will open via a lottery on Saturday, August 16th at 10am:

      • Sunday 2:15pm
      • Sunday 4:30pm
      • Sunday 6:45pm
      • Tuesday 8pm
      • Friday 7pm

Lottery entries will be collected via a google form that will be sent out on Saturday and will be accepted through Monday, August 18th. On Tuesday, August 19th, we will draw entries and contact curlers to accept their spot.

You may sign up for the lottery as a full team, partial team, or free agent. You will receive as many entries for the lottery as you have people committed to your team, but there is a chance, depending on where your team is drawn, that we will not be able to accommodate a full team. In that case, you’d be asked to decide whether you wanted to take the available spots or pass on the league.

You may join the lottery for multiple leagues, and will have the chance to rank them based on preference.

We finished our 2024-2025 season at an all time high for membership (over 300 curlers strong!), and are thrilled to see continued growth in this sport in our area. Thank you for your patience as we work through the challenges of finding a place on the ice for everyone who wants to join a league.

If you have questions about how the lottery process will work, please reach out to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

If leagues do not fill during the lottery, they will move to open registration for any remaining spots on Wednesday, August 20th.

League Points System

Points will be assigned to teams in leagues based on the following:

Win: 3 points
Win (skip draw): 2 points
Loss (skip draw): 1 point
Tie (skip draw not played): 1 point
Loss: 0 points

Each league may determine its championship differently dependent upon the number of teams and weeks. For example, some leagues may be a simple round robin while other leagues may have divisions or end with a semi-finals and finals matchups. Points will be used to determine standings and seeding

In addition to scores, teams will report on scoresheets how many ends are played after each game. The number of ends played will be tracked throughout the league and used to determine tiebreaker scenarios (see below). Games that end with an early concession count as 8 ends played.

League Tiebreakers

Ties in the standings will be broken in the following order:
  1. Win/Loss points accrued in head-to-head matches.
  2. Games won in regulation matches (ie, non-skip draw games).
  3. Average number of ends played (pace of gameplay).
  4. Coin flip.

Late Starting Games

Should your opponent not be available (3 or more curlers not available to begin) to start the game as the ice is ready, please inform your league-representative. USCA Rule R11-i (see below) shall be enforced against teams not prepared to play in a reasonably timely manner. The time of delay shall begin recording when the following conditions are met:

  1. One team is prepared to play and the other is not.
  2. The league commissioner or someone designated as 'in-charge' has been informed that a team is not ready to play at the start of draw time.
  3. All games featuring both teams ready to play have delivered their first stone.

If you suspect you may be late for a draw, please inform your teammates and your opponents. This rule may not be enforced under extenuating circumstances (e.g., a severe weather situation, family emergency, limited parking due to a Mavericks Hockey game). We encourage people to use the Spirit of Curling with this rule.

USCA Rule R11-i
(i) If a team is not available to start a game at the designated time, the following takes place:

(i) If the delay of the start of play is 01:00-14:59 minutes (01:00-09:59 minutes Mixed Doubles), then the non-offending team receives one point, and will have choice of first or second stone in the first end of actual play; one end is considered completed.
(ii) If the delay of the start of play is 15:00-29:59 minutes (10:00-19:59 for Mixed Doubles), then the non-offending team receives one additional point, and choice of first or second stone in the first end of actual play; two ends are considered completed.
(iii) If play has not started at 30 minutes (20 minutes for Mixed Doubles), then the non-offending team is declared the winner by forfeit.

(j) The final score of a forfeited game is recorded as “W – L” (win – loss).
